Google Chrome: browser wars from Google

Google_Chrome_Logo.jpgNews is rolling in of Google launching it’s own browser, called Google Chrome. Google has chosen a cool way to announce the project: through a comic book. It is little things like this that endears Google as a brand to so many of us – solid science delivered in a user-friendly way. Some screenshots of the browser are here.

And oh, the post on the Official Google blog is signed off by – Sundar Pichai, VP of Product Development who is an IIT alumni and holds an M.S. from Stanford University and an MBA from the Wharton School. So there is a little bit of India in this, eh?

The entire comic book (view in Firefox) is here. As New York Times noted, browser wars are good and this signals another round of Microsoft-Google bouts, which can only be good for the consumer.

    What about the user rights with Google Chrome?
    I’m referring to the ‘Whats Your’s is Mine’ article at themoderatevoice.com which gives a part of the ‘Terms of Service’
    “By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any content which you submit, post or display on or through, the services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the services and may be revoked for certain services as defined in the additional terms of those services.” When you submit information on your medical,financial or ANY forms you also are submitting it to Google.And it looks like they can do anything with it that they want.

    John, apparently the user rights have been tweaked. It now reads: “You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.” Google is already the 800-pound gorilla which is everywhere and the last thing they need is an oversight like this.
