Hornbach, @paperboatdrinks and more: creative ideas of the week

Commercial messages, TV spots, outdoor, web-only films, print ads… are everywhere, but only a handful are memorable. A round up of creative ideas which caught my eye over the last week.

1. Hornbach: regret nothing

DIY is a culture which is common in western countries. Hornbach, a German DIY-store chain offering home improvement and do-it-yourself goods has promoted the benefits of DIY through ads and educational videos. In a twist to the celebration of DIY as an attitude here comes an ad which says “Regret Nothing. About the Grandeur in Failure’. Loved it.

2. Paper Boat: tribute to Indian Railways

Nostalgia is a great source to tap into for brands which target those who grew up in the ’80s and ’90s. Paper Boat has latched on to this opportunity for years now and churned out some really heart warming ads. Such videos brings a smile to our faces and transfer the likeability to Paper Boat. The products too live up to the nostalgia plank and hence there is a fit. This also allows the brand to avoid a direct ‘sell’ of their products as seen in this latest tribute to Indian Railways. I am sure it all takes us back to our own summer trips to ‘native place’ or grandparents home or a holiday to a distant city – the charm of train travel is truly brought alive in this film.

3. L’Oreal: French lessons

In this charming film for L’Oreal UK, Helen Mirren provides French lessons to the British who consider themselves ‘lazy with languages’. The film coincides with the launch of Age Perfect’s new Face, Neck & Décolleté Re-hydrating Lotion and hence the reference to

4. Fruit of the Loom: Soft Story

A ‘tough shirt with a soft side’ is the proposition. So the creative idea is to show a seemingly ‘soft’ guy doing tough things. This kind of thing has been done before but still watchable and gets the point across.
